The faculty is housed in modern and purpose built accommodation. Although built only 20 years ago we aim to constantly update, modify and improve the facility and resources to reflect the changing nature of the world and the learning demands of our pupils.
The Faculty is very well resourced having dedicated learning spaces for Food Technology, Textiles Technology, Graphics and Graphic Products, Resistant Materials, Systems Electronics and Engineering. The Faculty has its own IT suite of fixed Pc’s. Each of these learning spaces is equipped with interactive white board technology.
The Faculty has state of the art computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacture, (CAM), capability (2D and 3D machining, in hard and soft materials)
In Years 7, 8 and 9, (Key Stage 3) all pupils follow a common course of Design and Technology learning; pupils have equal access to all aspects of the Faculty; visiting each one several times on a modular rotation. The aim of this time is to provide learning toward an understanding of design generally and to introduce the learners to a full range of material for making products. Each module lasts about 20hrs
In years 10 and 11, (Key Stage 4), the National Curriculum and our School Specialism of Engineering and Technology suggests strongly that all learners should study a Technology subject during Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) but that they must select only one of the aspects from those offered by the school.
The Faculty is keen to provide an effective and successful learning opportunity for all pupils and so offer a range of subjects to stimulate learning and interest and encourage a culture of excellence and success.
The Faculty offers a full range of GCSE courses in Design & Technology subjects at GCSE. Resistant Materials, Textiles Technology and Engineering.
Other Work Related Learning Opportunities are available to pupils on an invitation to apply basis. These are offered in partnership with the North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe and include:
Btec Hairdressing Level 1
NVQ Hairdressing Levels 1 and 2
NVQ Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 (Junior Apprenticeship)
We have the flexibility to gain access to other WRL programmes on an individual and negotiated need basis.
