The Trustee Board of Huntcliff Academy are seeking new Trustees to join them in driving improvements in outcomes for the pupils in our academy. The school is going through a challenging period and needs a strong Trustee Board, with the right skills, to drive through actions needed to bring about sustained improvements. You would be joining over 250,000 other volunteers, nationally, that work hard across the educational landscape to support children and young people improve their outcomes.

The role of the Trustee is a strategic one, with three core functions:

  • ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • overseeing and ensuring effective financial performance.

Trustees must apply the highest standards of conduct and ensure robust governance in order to ensure the improvements priorities in the academy are achieved. The Board welcomes Trustees with diverse skills and expertise and works together collaboratively in the best interests of the pupils and academy.

The Board would ideally like to recruit new Trustees with strength in the area of financial management or HR or SEND support, although individuals who are willing to develop that area of expertise through training or may bring different skills would be welcomed to apply.

Being a Trustee can be a very rewarding experience and apart from playing an important role in the lives of the young people in the academy community, Trustees also gain valuable professional development through the training on offer and by working collegiately with other skilled colleagues.

With regard to time commitment, the Trustee Board meet half termly as a full board and Trustees operate a committee structure and the committees also meet on a termly basis. The meetings are scheduled to last for approximately two hours. Trustees also undertake a monitoring role so visits outside of the meeting schedule can also take place. Trustees are also expected to engage in training to ensure their skills and knowledge of governance is kept up to date. All of the above are to allow the Trustees to gain a deep evaluation of the strengths and areas for development to inform their strategic role within the academy.

If you believe you have the interest and skills needed to support the academy to develop into the establishment which delivers outstanding outcomes and life chances for all of our pupils or would like more information about the role, please contact Mrs R Whipps , Chair of Trustees at rwhipps@huntcliffschool.co.uk by Friday 30th September 2022 at 12 noon.
